1000 Women Trust launches Give and Gain-campaign in build-up to international women’s day
The women-led organization 1000 Women Trust, a South African pioneer in creating awareness of gender-based violence, has launched a Give and Gain campaign highlighting the powerful role of women’s generosity in building safer, stronger and more equitable communities in the build-up to international woman’s day on 8th March 2026,
The campaign recognizes a simple but transformative truth: when women give, whether through knowledge, support, advocacy or leadership, entire communities benefit.
1000 Women Trust has already rolled out several programs and campaigns benefitting tens of thousands of South African women over the past 21 years, says Lauren Zinn, marketing manager of the Trust.
The Trust developed the trauma training course material which has educated and equipped at least 10000 women who have completed the course since 2019, Zinn added. A total of 12 657 women completed the trauma training course and have subsequently become community stalwarts assisting women who are victims of GBV.
In August 2024, the Trust launched Project Orange and the GBV-Warriors in order to create safe spaces for survivors of gender-based violence in GBV-hotspots and assist them in the critical 24 hours after an attack. In total, 115 women have since then been equipped as GBV-warriors in all nine provinces.
Last year, the office manager of the Trust, Bianca Charles, and a group of social workers developed a manual on Talking to Boys, an initiative focused on equipping parents of young toddlers and boys with the skills and values to share with their boys in order to treat women and girls with kindness, respect while endorsing gender-equality.
In all, 200 facilitators underwent training and shared the Talking to Boys-program with toddlers and teens in all SA communities, including GBV-hotspots.
The anti-bully material developed and facilitated by 1000 Women Trust, has been implemented by hundreds of
South African schools and has become a game-changer for many schools who previously experienced toxic relationships due to a high incidence of bullying, Zinn said. A total of 11 512 South African parents, teachers and learners have done the anti-bullying material developed by 1000 Women Trust.
“Across South Africa, thousands of members of 1000 Women Trust give their time, skills and care every day,” says Zinn.
“They support survivors of gender-based violence, mentor young women and children, share knowledge and create spaces of healing and empowerment. These contributions often go unseen, yet their impact is profound,” said Zinn.
“Giving is not a loss – it is leadership,” Zinn added.
“Every time a woman supports another, something grows – confidence, safety, opportunity and hope. This campaign honours the women whose generosity transforms lives and strengthens communities,” Zinn said.
Through storytelling, community engagement and public participation, 1000 Women Trust’s Give and Gain campaign will share the stories of women who give daily. It will also highlight the power of collective support, promote healing and knowledge-sharing initiatives and invite the public to participate in acts of support and solidarity.
The campaign will run for three weeks, leading up to international woman’s day on 8th March featuring community voices, leader profiles and opportunities for the public to engage in meaningful acts of giving.
1000 Women Trust works to empower, educate, inspire and equip women through support services, training programmes and community-based initiatives aimed at building safer and more resilient societies.
Members of the public are invited to join the movement by learning, sharing and supporting others in their communities.
